Wigan have secured the loan signing of striker Paul Mullin from Wrexham for the 2025-26 League One campaign.

The 30-year-old forward, who joined Wrexham from Cambridge United in 2021, has been a key figure during the club’s rise through the divisions, netting 110 goals in 170 appearances.

Mullin played a crucial role in Wrexham’s back-to-back promotions from the National League to the Championship under the ownership of Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

However, the striker was limited to just 17 appearances last season due to a back injury that required surgery, starting only nine times in League One and scoring three league goals.

Speaking to Wigan’s official website, Mullin said: “I’m excited for the next part of my story. The gaffer has outlined his plan for the season, and I’m hoping to take his trust into the season and make it a really successful one.

“As a player, I give absolutely everything and work as hard as I can. I’ve scored a lot of goals over the last few years, but more than anything, I give my absolute all for the club that I’m playing for, and I’m going to do that again with Wigan.”

We can confirm striker Paul Mullin will join Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2025/26 season

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson praised Mullin’s contribution and backed him to shine during his spell at the DW Stadium: “I’d like to wish Paul all the best for his loan move. It’s a good opportunity for him to get back to playing regular first-team football and I’m sure he’s going to be a great signing for Wigan Athletic.”

Wrexham are facing the prospect of promotion to the Premier League next season, a statement that would have sounded like a fairytale just a few years ago.

Mullin’s departure echoes the ruthless nature of the ownership in Wales, as the club bid to battle among the best on a regular basis in the near future.
