After roughly 100 millimetres of rain came crashing down within 40 minutes in the state’s northern region Saturday, residential properties and critical infrastructure was destroyed. Since then, authorities have assessed damage to at least 60 homes, nearly three-dozen roads, bridges and natural gas lines. Speaking Monday, Wheeling’s Emergency Management Director Lou Vargo said the damage assessment will be passed to the Governor’s Office before “eventually” making its way to President Donald Trump. Vargo expressed hope that Trump will declare the situation a state emergency.
