The U.S. president doubled down on his threat today to source more potash from Belarus. The U.S. currently relies on potash from Saskatchewan for roughly 80 per cent of its agricultural needs — making it Canada’s largest customer. “Belarus has a lot of Potash and our farmers need good prices and we want to get a lower price than Canada,” Trump said at the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday, “we'll continue to go with Canada, but Belarus would like to sell it for a much lower price.” While stocks for Canadian companies like Nutrien fell yesterday, experts say Canada remains in a position of strength.
