Foldables have emerged as one of 2026’s defining smartphone trends, spanning everything from clamshells to book-style devices, alongside Apple’s entry into the segment with the iPhone Duo. In India, the Vivo X Fold6 takes on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 series, Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Motorola Razr Fold. I spent some time with Vivo’s latest foldable to see how it stacks up.

Design

At 228 g and just 4.4 mm when unfolded, the X Fold6 feels impressively slim and premium, with a glass-and-aluminium build and a clean, understated design.

Those rounded corners make a noticeable difference in daily use. Whether folded as a phone or opened into a tablet-like form factor, the device sits comfortably in the hand without sharp edges digging into the palms. Despite the glass back, it remains surprisingly easy to grip in both modes. Vivo also bundles a partial TPU case that covers the rear panel. Its textured, rubberised finish improves grip, adds some protection and makes the foldable feel more secure during one-handed use.

The X Fold6 combines IPX8/IPX9 water resistance and IP5X dust protection with a premium finish. While the camera bump still causes some table wobble, it is less pronounced than on the X300 Ultra. The Prism Black unit I reviewed looks sleek and understated, but the Nebula Teal variant is the more eye-catching option, adding a vibrant splash of teal blue colour for those who prefer their phone to stand out.

Display

The X Fold6 pairs an 8.02 inch inner AMOLED display with a 6.51 inch cover screen, both supporting HDR formats including Dolby Vision and Netflix HDR. Both displays offer adaptive 1Hz-120Hz refresh rates, high peak brightness, and comfortable low-light viewing.

In daily use, the display proved to be one of the X Fold6’s standout features. I found myself binge-watching episodes of The Rookie, appreciating both the expansive form factor and the quality of the AMOLED panel. Skin tones appeared natural, colours were vibrant without looking oversaturated, and contrast levels remained consistently strong. Whether streaming movies or web series, the foldable screen makes a great case as an entertainment device for long flights or road trips with the crease barely noticeable at the centre of the display.

Audio

Audio is handled by dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. The speaker setup delivers a noticeable improvement over the previous foldable I reviewed. Despite the speaker placement, audio output felt balanced with minimal directional bias. Listening to tracks such as Muthumani and Kalyana Virindhu from Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy, I was impressed by the stereo separation and overall clarity. Vocals, instruments, and background elements were reproduced with good detail, while both highs and lows remained well-balanced across genres. The result is an enjoyable multimedia experience that complements the large immersive display.

Performance

Powered by the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, the X Fold6 delivers flagship-level performance, posting Geekbench 7 scores of 1,695 (single-core) and 6,792 (multi-core). The unit I reviewed featured 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.

Performance never felt wanting in daily use. The large foldable display made gaming particularly enjoyable, with BGMI running comfortably above 90fps and Rainbow Six Mobile playing smoothly without stutters or noticeable heating. Even casual titles such as Hitwicket and Real Cricket scaled well on the expansive screen and ran without issues.

The X Fold6 runs OriginOS 7 Fold based on Android 17, with a suite of productivity features designed to take advantage of its large foldable display. Origin Workbench supports up to five apps simultaneously, while Multi-Split Screen makes multitasking more intuitive and practical.

Vivo has also packed in a range of AI-powered tools, including AI Cross-App Drag, meeting transcription and summaries, PDF reformatting, file organisation and content summarisation, many of which require a Vivo ID login. Together, these features add genuine utility for users looking to get more done on the foldable’s large display.

For users looking to replace their laptop on the go, the X Fold6 supports both wired and wireless display output with resizable windows for a desktop-like experience. In day-to-day use, these features worked reliably and added genuine utility beyond the usual foldable gimmicks.

Camera

The ZEISS-backed camera system comprises a 200 MP main sensor, a 50 MP 3X periscope telephoto lens and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera.

The primary camera delivers excellent detail, natural colours and strong contrast, while the 3x telephoto lens remains impressively usable up to around 8x zoom before image quality begins to taper off. Low-light performance is equally strong, with good detail retention, balanced exposure and effective noise control.

For selfies and video calls, the X Fold6 features a 20 MP camera on each display, while the foldable design lets users use the rear cameras for self-portraits via the cover screen. Skin tones look natural, facial details are well preserved, and disabling AI beautification helps avoid excessive smoothing.

Additional features include telephoto macro photography, AI editing tools and foldable-specific shooting modes such as split-screen previews and teleprompter support. Video recording is supported up to 4K 60fps with Dolby Vision.

Overall, the X Fold6 delivers one of the most complete camera experiences on a foldable, combining reliable image quality with useful shooting features.

Battery

The X Fold6 packs a 6,900 mAh battery and supports 80 W FlashCharge, 40 W wireless charging, and wireless reverse charging. In my testing, it consistently delivered 7-8 hours of screen-on time under heavy use and around 1.5 days on standby. Using the bundled 80 W charger, it went from 0 to 80 per cent in under 45 minutes and reached a full charge in about 70 minutes. Combined with its strong endurance, the X Fold6 easily lasts through a full day of demanding use.

Verdict

Priced at ₹2,19,999, the X Fold6 combines a refined design, excellent displays, strong battery life, flagship performance and a capable camera system, making it one of the most well-rounded foldables available today. While its premium price tag and some pre-installed bloatware may give a few buyers pause, neither detracts significantly from the overall experience. For those seeking a foldable that balances productivity, performance, battery life and photography, the X Fold6 comes highly recommended.

Pros: Excellent displays, premium design, strong battery life, flagship performance, capable ZEISS cameras, useful productivity features.
