Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited Managing Director N. Ramakrishna Reddy said that four corridors covering 76.70 kms will be laid as part of Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project, which will meet the long-term transportation needs of the city.

Speaking at the CII Vijayawada Annual Meeting here on Sunday (March 8, 2026), Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy said that the Visakhapatnam Metro-cum-four Lane Road Flyover project proposed along the National Highway-16 will improve the flow of traffic by integrating metro infrastructure with road transportation.

“The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed to construct 12 flyovers at various junctions along the NH-16 passing through Visakhapatnam to ensure smooth flow of freight and passenger traffic,” the Metro Rail Corporation MD said.

The Vijayawada Metro Rail Project which includes three corridors spanning over 66.20 kms, planned along the National Highway flyovers will improve connectivity to Vijayawada, he said.

Railway Board Additional Member (Traffic) Devendra Kumar stressed the need for rapid development of transport in Andhra Pradesh, which reduces travel time and improves regional connectivity.

“Introduction of Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains is offering modern, comfortable, and high speed travel facilities to the passengers,” Mr. Devendra Kumar said.

Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mohit Sonakiya highlighted the ongoing development works including upgradation of Machilipatnam railway station and strengthening of railway bridges in the division.

Emphasising the need for integrating rail, road, and port connectivity, Mr. Sonakiya said such infrastructure development initiatives will help reduce transport costs, decongest roads, and support sustainable economic growth.

CII Vijayawada Chairperson V. Nagalakshmi said that an integrated rail, port, and industrial ecosystem in the State will improve exports from Southern India. “With major ports like Visakhapatnam, Krishnapatnam, Gangavaram, and Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh is having good advantage for export-led growth,” she said.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Advisor (Safety operations) and CEO Chennai Metro Rail Phase-2 Nanduri Srinivas, Efftronics Systems Private Limited Managing Director D. Ramakrishna and others participated.
