Calling the flydubai incident a dangerous terrorist act, UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash lauded Indian co-pilot Smit Machchhar's critical role in preventing an air disaster by describing him as a true hero. The remarks suggest that the UAE is not going to downplay the attack, while also serving as the first official acknowledgement by the UAE government of the remarkable fightback by Machchhar against his Omani co-pilot under extreme pressure.Gargash's comments, which came in the middle of the probe to ascertain if the incident was indeed linked to terrorism, followed the announcement by Israeli ambassador to India Reuven Azar that Israel will suitably honour the Indian pilot."Smit Machchhar deserves every bit of appreciation, for he embodied the meaning of courage and responsibility in the face of a dangerous terrorist act and a potential disaster," said Gargash in a post in Arabic on X.

Grateful to Machchhar, a true hero of India: Israeli envoy

Captain Smit Machchhar’s professionalism and moral sense in the darkest of circumstances make him a true hero, UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said. The remarks seemed intended to reassure the international community that local institutions will actively confront extremist threats and also conduct the probe into the attack with absolute transparency.

“Far from the easy reduction of what happened or the adoption and promotion of conspiracy theories, vigilance and caution remain essential in confronting the risks of extremism and terrorism,” Gargash said.In India, Azar said Israeli people were grateful to Machchhar, calling him a true hero of India.“Those who help Israel are never forgotten by Israel. I can assure you that Machchhar will be honoured and recognised in Israel. I have no doubt about that,” said the Israeli ambassador, adding that Israel doesn’t forget people who help the country.“He demonstrated through his calmness, determination, and experience that terrorism can be defeated,” he said in his remarks to News-18.
