Hapur Police on Thursday (August 13, 2026) arrested two men in connection with the death of Mohd Azeem, who succumbed to injuries in a Delhi hospital on August 04, four days after he was allegedly assaulted by kanwariyas following a road accident near Shiva Dhaba in Garhmukhteshwar.
According to a statement by Hapur police, Lokesh, son of Kanwarpal Singh, and Shivam, son of Naresh, both residents of Bheda Khurd village under Pilkhuwa police station were arrested following Azeem’s death. They were booked for murder and rioting.
“Two were among four accused named in the case and that efforts were underway to arrest the remaining accused,” police’s statement read.
According to the FIR lodged in the matter, Azeem, a mini-truck driver from Moradabad, was travelling towards Delhi on July 31 when his vehicle collided with an auto-rickshaw near the Shiva Dhaba, close to the Brijghat toll plaza. The auto-rickshaw was being driven by 19-year-old Mohd Farman and was ferrying Kanwariyas.
Mohd Intezar, father of the deceased, had alleged that after the collision, Farman and his associates assaulted his son, leaving him seriously injured. Azeem was initially taken to a hospital in Garhmukhteshwar and was later shifted to Meerut before being referred to Delhi, where he died.
The case, however, has competing accounts.
Mohd Imran, father of auto-driver Farman also lodged a separate FIR alleging that it was Azeem who had deliberately rammed his vehicle into his son. He added that Farman also sustained serious injuries in the incident and was undergoing treatment.
With Azeem’s death, police said they initiated the process of closing the case registered against him, while continuing the investigation into the case concerning his death.
