During a press conference on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt weighed in on the ongoing anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, supporting U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy National Guard troops and mobilize Marines to quell violence over the weekend. The protests began this weekend against Trump-ordered mass deportations from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The federal action resulted in violence against ICE officers and police. California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have both condemned Trump’s decision to escalate the situation and for "wasting taxpayers' money" on unnecessary federal resources. “Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass shamefully failed to meet their sworn obligations to their citizens. They didn’t have the courage to do the right thing and correct law-abiding Californians from rioters,” Leavitt said, claiming Trump’s decision would “end the chaos and restore law and order.” Furthermore, Leavitt said, "left-wing riots will not deter" Trump from delivering on his campaign promise of the mass deportation.
