Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayPresident Donald Trump has announced that the United States will add a 10% tariff on imports from any country that supports the “anti-American policies” of the BRICS group.
He made this clear on his social media, promising no exceptions and saying official notices will go out soon. BRICS, which began with Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, just added Indonesia and several other major emerging economies.
The group now represents over half the world’s people and nearly half of global economic output. At their recent summit in Rio de Janeiro, BRICS leaders called for fairer global trade rules and less reliance on the U.S. dollar.
Their New Development Bank plans to make almost a third of its loans in local currencies by 2026, up from about a fifth now, to protect members from currency swings.
Trump’s move comes after BRICS leaders criticized U.S. tariffs and pushed for changes at institutions like the United Nations and World Trade Organization.
The U.S. has not named which countries will face the new tariffs, but the warning is clear: countries siding with BRICS could pay more to sell goods in America. This standoff matters because it could raise prices for everyday goods, disrupt trade, and force countries to pick sides.
The BRICS expansion signals a real challenge to U.S. economic influence, as more countries look for new partners and ways to do business outside the Western system.
The world’s trading system is now at a crossroads. As BRICS gets bigger and pushes for change, the U.S. is drawing a line. Businesses, governments, and consumers everywhere will feel the effects of this new rivalry.
