President Donald Trump does not yet support regime change in the Israel-Iran conflict — but that could change, according to two senior U.S. officials who spoke to Reuters anonymously.

The source said the American president vetoed plans from Israel in recent days to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

But the official warned that could change.

"Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do, we're not even talking about going after the political leadership," the official told Reuters.

The official's comments come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested that conflict between Israel and Iran, which have seen missiles raining on both countries since Friday, presented a compelling opportunity to topple the Iranian regime.

In an interview with Fox News' Brett Baier on June 15, Netanyahu said the Iranian regime is "very weak."

"We did act to save ourselves, but also, I think, to not only protect ourselves, but [also] protect the world from this incendiary regime," Netanyahu said. "We can't have the world's most dangerous regime have the world's most dangerous weapons."
