The tragic final words of a holidaymaker who died in a devastating shark attack on her last day of holiday have been revealed.
A 68-year-old Austrian woman died from "shock" in an ambulance after "losing an arm and leg" at a popular Egyptian resort in July 2022. Distressing video footage showed her frantically swimming towards the shore following the attack in the Red Sea.
The horrific incident took place at Sahl Hasheesh, a popular bay along Egypt's Red Sea coastline, near Hurghada.
In the aftermath of the attack, authorities imposed a three-day ban on swimming, diving, snorkelling and fishing from the area to Makadi Bay, according to local reports.
The holidaymaker's final words have now been disclosed, reports the MailOnline, as she told her partner moments before the tragedy: "I'll go back in for a moment."
Footage was filmed by horrified Russian tourists who condemned the lack of lifeguards or rescue personnel.
The woman's blood could be seen in the water as she struggled - wearing a flipper - to reach a jetty.
A large crowd witnessed the unfolding horror, yet nobody was seen entering the water to help the stricken woman.
Alternative accounts suggest tourists fled the water when the woman was attacked and attempted to "distract the shark from the victim".
The casualty was reportedly married to an Egyptian man and lived with him in the country.
Russian onlookers confirmed she had lost an arm but made no reference to a severed leg.
One witness said: "People are rushing out of the sea. There's no ambulance, there's no-one helping her.
"She's got no arm - up to her elbow. The shark grabbed her and twisted her around."
In a chilling video, terrified Russians can be heard yelling: "Where are the rescuers? F***, she's covered in blood. The shark bit her arm off.
"Where's the rescue team? Where's the shark? Lifeguards? Where are the lifeguards? She's going to f***ing die."
The woman managed to make it to the shore but tragically died from what seemed to be severe shock following the savage attack.
"Doctors fought for her life for a long time, giving her cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but she could not be saved," one report stated.
