Wine connoisseurGlobal purchases of imported wine totaled US$38.99 billion in 2025. Overall, the value of wine imported into all buyer countries slowed by an average -5.8% since five years earlier in 2021 when wine purchases were valued at $41.4 billion.
Year over year, international purchases of wine flatlined to a -0.2% reduction compared to $38.96 billion during 2024.
The world’s biggest 5 wine importers are the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and Japan. Collectively that cohort of major buying countries bought approaching half (46.3%) of all wine imported in 2025 by sales.
From a continental perspective, European countries bought the highest dollar worth of imported wine during 2025 valued at $20.82 billion or 53.5% of the global total. In second place were importers based in North America at 22.6% while another 16.8% of worldwide wine imports was delivered to customers in Asia.
Smaller percentages were delivered to buyers in Latin America (3.2%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, Oceania (2.1%) led by Australia and New Zealand, then Africa (1.8%).
