In 2025, international sales of peppermint oils exported from all countries were worth a total US$164.7 million.

Overall exports of peppermint oils fell by an average -12.9% since 2021 when globally exported peppermint totaled $189.1 million.

Year over year, the dollar value of peppermint exports rose by 2.2% compared to $161.2 million starting in 2024.

The 5 biggest peppermint exporters (India, United States of America, Germany, France and the Netherlands) generated 84% of globally exported peppermint sales during 2025.

Applying a continental lens, countries in Asia sold the highest dollar worth of exported peppermint during 2025 with shipments valued at $65.1 million or 39.6% of the global total. In second place were exporters in North America at 34.1% while 25.4% of international peppermint sales originated from providers in Europe. Tinier percentages came from sellers in Oceania (0.4%) mostly Australia and New Zealand, Latin America (0.3%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, and Africa (0.2%).

Focusing on peppermint import buyers, the 5 leading importers of peppermint in 2025 were the United States of America, Germany, mainland China, Japan and the Netherlands. Collectively, that quintet of top buyers bought 43.1% of globally imported peppermint.

Those percentages suggest a much more concentrated cohort of 69 total peppermint exporters (84% for top 5 suppliers) compared to 145 importing countries, islands and territories with a corresponding 43.1% for the top 5 importers.

In addition, from a continental perspective, 41.8% of globally imported peppermint was delivered to European countries closely followed by importers in Asia (39.4%), North America (14.6%), then Latin America (2.3%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, Oceania (1%) mostly Australia, and Africa (0.8%).

In 2025, the worldwide average unit price paid by importers was $33,227 per ton of peppermint oil. That dollar amount reflects 4.5% in price inflation from the average tonnage rate of $31,798 for 2024.

By value, the listed 15 countries shipped 96.4% of globally exported peppermint in 2025.

Among the top exporters, the fastest-growing peppermint exporters since 2024 were: Netherlands (up 129.4%), Belgium (up 116.2%), Canada (up 71.8%) and Switzerland (up 57.1%).

Those countries that posted year-over-year declines in their exported peppermint sales were led by: Hong Kong (down -43.7%), Croatia (down -33.1%), Spain (down -8.5%), United States of America (down -8%) and Germany (down -1.6%).

Overall spending on imported peppermint fell by -8.6% over the 5-year period starting in 2021 to US$168.5 billion for 2025, and slowed by -3.1% year-over-year since 2024.

Below are the 15 best buying markets as measured by the highest dollar value worth of peppermint imported during 2025.

Those countries that posted declines in their imported peppermint sales were led by: Singapore (down -30.5%), United States of America (down -24.1%), Hong Kong (down -22.4%), Indonesia (down -18.2%) and India (down -15.2%).

Lowest and Highest Unit Prices for Imported Peppermint

In 2025, the world’s average unit price for imported peppermint was US$33,227 per ton up by 4.5% compared to $31,462 one year earlier for 2024.

Over a 5-year timeframe, the average global unit price inflated by 3.8% versus the $32,002 average for 2021.

The average tonnage charge in 2025 for the number one peppermint importer, the United States of America, was lower at $25,639 per ton than the global average for the most recent year reported.
