A 107-fold rise in exports! That sums up the story of India’s knitwear capital Tiruppur over the last 35 years. From a modest ₹429 crore in calendar year (CY) 1991, its knitwear exports have grown to ₹46,000 crore in financial year 2025-26. This growth makes the city, around 463 kilometres to the west of state capital Chennai, a classic small-scale industry cluster success story in the post-liberalisation era, driven by scale, entrepreneurship and resilience.
