Tirupati MP M. Gurumurthy has pitched for moving some of the railway-related works within the purview of Guntakal Railway Division to Tirupati, in view of the latter’s growing prominence and importance as a famous pilgrim centre.
Speaking at the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, he recalled Tirupati’s importance as a pilgrim centre, an academic hub and an industrial destination and the lakhs of passengers thronging the place throughout the year.
With over 1.5 lakh travellers recorded every day from Tirupati and the Tirupati-Renigunta segment, the passenger crowd management has become tough for the officials monitoring from Guntakal, the divisional headquarters, and hence suggested shifting some of the core activities to Tirupati. He also pointed out that the revenue generated from Tirupati was much higher than several divisional headquarters stations.
