Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayTikTok has failed to keep children off the popular video-sharing app and obtain their consent to collect and use their data, a joint, two-year investigation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada found. Though Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne – and several of his provincial counterparts – expressed content with TikTok’s accordance to act with their recommendations Tuesday, the privacy watchdog said the platform still “must do more” to help keep children under the age of 13 away from the app. “Every minute of every day, a child in Canada is removed from TikTok because they are under 13 years of age,” B.C.’s privacy commissioner Michael Harvey said. “That’s half a million accounts banned every year belonging to children who should never have been on the platform, children whose personal information has been collected and used in ways they could not have meaningfully consented to and without a reasonable or legitimate purpose,” he added. In relation to national security, the report recommends that TikTok make its privacy policy more transparent and be explicit with the details of where user information can be accessed, and by what governments. Regarding how parents can act on the matter, Dufresne emphasized the importance of awareness. “We need to put the best interest of the child first and foremost,” he said, further noting that the responsibility isn’t solely restricted to TikTok, but “on all of us as a society.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/11446311/tiktok-canada-privacy-youth-investigation-findings/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #TikTok #Canada #PrivacyCommissioner
