After a 29-day-long effort involving significant manpower, kumki elephants, drone cameras, and 14 strategically placed cages around Gudalur, the tiger that is believed to have killed two people at Lauriston in O’Valley, Gudalur, was trapped in one of the cages placed at the Silver Cloud Estate on Friday (September 18, 2026) morning.
Following its capture, the animal was taken to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), where Forest Department officials verified whether the animal that they had captured was, in fact, the same one that had killed two persons over a two-week period in O’Valley in August. They used hair samples collected at the scenes of the incidents, besides comparing the images captured by a camera trap, for the verification process.
The male tiger was then transported to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai, where it is to live out the rest of its life in captivity.
