J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday (March 17, 2026) said those who try to threaten “will have to pay a very heavy price”.

“Any individual or group that seeks to threaten the peace, law and order, or the safety of innocent civilians in J&K will have to pay a very heavy price. They shall be met with the full force of the law. The J&K Police is unequivocal in its commitment to safeguard order and stability, and shall pursue all necessary measures against such acts, without exception,” said Mr. Sinha.

Mr. Sinha made these remarks in his speech at the passing out parade of the J&K Police constables in the STC Talwara, in Reasi, Jammu division.

The remarks assume significance in the wake of recent protests against the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei in Kashmir and the detention of scores of protesters thereafter. Ruling National Conference (NC) had urged the L-G to release the protesters, many of whom were booked under stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Meanwhile, praising the J&K Police for being “instrumental in a terror-free and crime-free J&K”, Mr. Sinha said, “The force has played a pivotal role in achieving remarkable milestones in good governance, innovation, social unity, and building a just society.”

Calling upon the fresh graduates “to focus on protecting J&K’s achievements in the past five to six years, the L-G asked them to “uproot separatist elements that are trying to divide people and derail development”.

With all resources and resolve, Mr. Sinha said, the J&K Police should pursue zero tolerance to terrorism. “With stakeholder support, a comprehensive strategy will soon liberate J&K from terror,” he added.
