The new Outer Shell QR Tote looks like the small brand’s top-opening Everyday Tote, but with one major twist: a custom quick-release mounting system that locks it securely to a rack. Check it out here…

At first glance, the new QR Tote from Outer Shell in California looks identical to the Everyday Tote Lucas reviewed a few years ago. Like the Everyday Tote, the QR Tote has a large top-opening zippered closure, exterior pockets, and a generous 10-liter capacity, but the underside of the bag changes everything.

Robust steel pins recessed into the base of the bag snap into place when you set it on the included magnetic base. A pull tab at the front lets you release it quickly, making it ideal for errands and commutes when you want to take your bag with you. The included 7″ x 7″ aluminum mounting plate attaches to any rack and features a durable, gloss powder-coated finish. See the tote in action in the video below.

The bag has a padded foam bottom and a rigid composite mounting plate designed to be suitably stiff yet still easy on contents. It has small exterior sleeve pockets for U-locks, phones, wallets, and sunglasses, plus a large exterior zippered pocket, an interior zippered pocket, and an internal laptop sleeve. Side compression straps pull the top of the bag down toward the rack, and the main body is made from ECOPAK EPLX600 with a 400D Nylon Packcloth liner. A secondary cord on the back loops around your stem or steerer tube for extra stability.

The Outer Shell QR Tote weighs two pounds (907 grams) with the mounting plate, is 11-18″ wide, 14″ tall, and 6″ deep, and costs $350 USD. Like the Everyday Tote, it is highly weather-resistant, but not waterproof, and has two soft rope handles on either side of the opening. The QR Tote is offered in two versions: black with neon green/silver straps or black with blue/purple straps.

The QR Tote is only available for a limited time and can be purchased now from OuterShell.com.
