Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayProduction on the highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, has officially started with the original cast, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, returning!
The news (via Deadline) also comes with the addition of a new cast member in the form of Kenneth Branagh, who will play Miranda Priestly’s husband.
This announcement comes soon after the recent news that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will be stepping down from her position after 37 years. Wintour has been heavily rumoured to be the inspiration for the character of Priestley after the book’s author, Lauren Weisberger, worked as her personal assistant. The plot of the sequel will reportedly focus on Priestley facing the growing decline of the print industry.
This sequel will also see writer Aline Bros McKenna, director David Frankel and producer Wendy Finerman all returning to their respective roles. The original movie was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Meryl Streep and Best Costume Design.
A teaser for the sequel was shared on Instagram via the 20th Century Studios’ account.
The timing for this sequel seems to be perfect due to the resurgence in the film’s popularity, partially thanks to the recent West End stage musical that has proven to be very popular. The 2006 movie was a big success, raking in over $326 million worldwide, so a sequel is short to continue the momentum of the original. Plus, it also comes at a time when romantic comedies are bringing in big numbers at the box office post-pandemic with the likes of Anyone But You and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to release on May 1st, 2026.
