Telangana Government’s ambitious breakfast scheme for students from pre-primary to 12 standard (junior colleges) at government institutions was launched in Hyderabad on Monday (June 15, 2026), which also marked the beginning of the academic year 2026-27. Text books and note books too were distributed to the students.

Under the breakfast scheme, different food items are served for breakfast from Monday to Saturday, with one item repeated on two days, including millet based food. Either milk or ragi jawa is served too. 

Phase wise roll out

This will be rolled out in a phase wise manner in all government schools and junior colleges across the State through a network of centralised kitchens. Under the phase-I, 1,302 institutions, including 33 junior colleges, would be covered. Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Trust and Manna Trust will implement the scheme under this phase across eight districts. 

Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who launched the scheme in the district, asked the students to have breakfast and lunch at the government educational institutions. He said that nutritious food is being provided to ensure the students are physically and psychologically healthy.
