Two teenagers have been charged with an alleged stabbing in Sydney.

Emergency services were called to an intersection in Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia at about 9.15pm Friday, February 27 after reports of a stabbing. Officers found a 54-year-old man with stab wounds to his upper body, New South Wales (NSW) Police said.

"He was treated by police until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived, and was then taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition," the force said.

Police were told the man got involved in an argument with a boy on an e-bike, which then escalated into a physical confrontation.

Police said boy allegedly fled the scene and returned with another boy who was believed to have been armed with a knife. The pair are alleged to have assaulted the man a second time before leaving.

Police earlier said that "the man was stabbed with a machete."

At about 9.40pm, two boys, aged 15 and 17, were arrested in the area and taken to a police station.

The 15-year-old boy was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, common assault, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, two counts supply prohibited drug, deal with property proceeds of crime, goods suspected stolen in/on premises and breach of bail.

The 17-year-old boy was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and breach of bail.

The pair were refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Division Court on Saturday, February 28.
