Tata Motors reported a 9% year-on-year (YoY) decline in its global wholesales for the first quarter of FY26, totaling 2,99,664 units, down from 3,29,847 units in the same period last year. The figures include sales from its premium arm, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the company said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday.

The automaker’s commercial vehicle and Tata Daewoo global wholesales stood at 87,569 units for the April-June quarter, marking a 6% drop compared to Q1 FY25. Similarly, global passenger vehicle sales declined 10% YoY to 1,24,809 units.

Jaguar Land Rover saw an 11% decrease in wholesales during the quarter, delivering 87,286 units worldwide. Of this, Jaguar contributed 2,339 units, while Land Rover sales totaled 84,947 units.

Back home, Tata Motors’ total domestic sales fell 8.47% YoY to 2,10,415 units in Q1 FY26, compared to 2,29,891 units in the same quarter last year. Both major segments witnessed contraction — domestic passenger vehicle sales dipped 10% to 1,24,809 units, and commercial vehicle sales declined 6% to 85,606 units.

June 2025 specifically saw a 12% drop in domestic sales compared to June 2024. However, the company highlighted a bright spot in its international commercial vehicle business, which posted a robust 68% YoY growth during the quarter.

Tata Motors also noted a gradual recovery in electric vehicle (EV) demand toward the end of Q1 FY26. Out of the 1,24,809 passenger vehicles sold in the quarter, 16,231 were electric — a positive indicator despite the overall decline in passenger vehicle volumes.

The automaker remains cautiously optimistic, with EV sales offering some relief amid broader volume pressures across domestic and global markets.
