Tajikistan reveals number of economically active people

Khayal Khatamzadeh

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 7. Tajikistan's labor force aged 15–75 exceeded three million people in 2025.

The information was announced by the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

"The labor force aged 15–75 totaled 3,018,773 people," the survey said.

According to the survey, men accounted for 1,950,415 people, or 64.6% of the labor force, while women represented 1,068,358 people, or 35.4%.

The largest labor force was recorded in the Khatlon region with more than one million people, followed by the Sughd region with 1,077,647 people. The Districts of Republican Subordination accounted for 528,489 people, Dushanbe for 320,835, and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region for 90,724.

According to Trend's analysis, Tajikistan's labor force continues to expand alongside the country's population growth, with economically active citizens concentrated in the country's largest agricultural regions. The high share of workers in Khatlon and Sughd underlines their importance as key contributors to national economic activity and employment. The regional distribution also reflects the concentration of agricultural production and growing economic activity outside the capital, highlighting the importance of balanced regional development policies.

Looking ahead, further improvements in labor productivity, job creation, and investment in regional industries could strengthen employment opportunities across the country. Continued economic diversification may also help create higher-value jobs while supporting balanced regional development and long-term economic growth. Expanding vocational training, encouraging private sector investment, and improving labor market efficiency could further enhance employment prospects and strengthen Tajikistan's economic resilience in the coming years.
