That projected dollar amount results from a -26.7% decline from $1.11 billion 5 years earlier in 2021.
Year over year, the value of Syria’s exported products retreated by -38.8% compared to $1.33 billion starting from 2024.
The 5 biggest exports from the Syrian Arab Republic are olive oil, miscellaneous nuts, uncombed cotton, crude oil then cumin or coriander seeds and juniper berries. Combined, those 5 leading product categories accounted for over one third (36.5%) of the value of all Syrian exported products in 2025.
Major Syrian Trading Partners
The latest available country-specific data way back in 2010 shows that an estimated 81.1% of products exported from Syria were bought by importers in: Iraq (20.2% of the global total), Italy (13.4%), Germany (13%), Turkey (5.5%), Saudi Arabia (4.8%), France (4.3%), Lebanon (3.8%), Jordan (3.6%), United States (3.5%), Netherlands (also 3.5%), Egypt (3.4%) and Spain (2.1%).
Given Syria’s population of an estimated 25.6 million people, its total US$814.4 million in 2025 exports translates to approximately $32 for every resident in the Middle Eastern country. That per-capita amount lags the average $33 one year prior.
The following export product groups categorize the highest dollar value in Syrian global shipments during 2025 at the 2-digit Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code level. Also shown is the percentage share each export category represents in terms of overall exports from Syria.
- Fruits, nuts: US$126.5 million (15.5% of total exports)
- Animal/vegetable fats, oils, waxes: $103 million (12.6%)
- Coffee, tea, spices: $88.6 million (10.9%)
- Mineral fuels including oil: $66.8 million (8.2%)
- Vegetables: $60 million (7.4%)
- Vegetable/fruit/nut preparations: $59.7 million (7.3%)
- Cotton: $56.9 million (7%)
- Iron, steel: $29.1 million (3.6%)
- Salt, sulphur, stone, cement: $27.7 million (3.4%)
- Copper: $23.8 million (2.9%)
Syria’s top 10 export product categories generated over three-quarters (78.8%) of the overall value of its global shipments.
Mineral fuels including oil represent the fastest grower among the top 10 export categories, up by 21,448% from 2024 to 2025.
In second place for improving export sales was copper via a 411.2% upturn.
Syria’s shipments of the metals iron and steel posted the third-fastest gain in value, up by 89.3%.
The leading decliner among Syria’s top 10 export categories was animal or vegetable fats, oils and waxes, thanks to a -69% year-over-year drop.
At the more detailed 4-digit HTS code level, Syria’s most valuable exported products were olive oil (12.4% of Syria’s global total), miscellaneous nuts (8.3%), uncarded and uncombed cotton (6.9%), crude oil (4.5%), cumin or coriander seeds and juniper berries (4.4%), ginger, saffron and other spices (also 4.4%), processed petroleum oils (3.7%), iron or steel scrap (3.6%), natural calcium phosphates (3.1%), then dried shelled vegetables (3%).
Products Behind Syria’s Best Trade Surpluses
The following types of Syrian product shipments represent positive net exports or a trade balance surplus. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports.
In a nutshell, net exports represent the amount by which foreign spending on a home country’s goods or services exceeds or lags the home country’s spending on foreign goods or services.
- Cotton: US$37.8 million (Down by -2.3% since 2024)
- Wool: $17.9 million (Up by 102.6%)
- Vegetable/fruit/nut preparations: $17.9 million (Down by -73%)
- Lead: $2.1 million (Up by 7.2%)
- Raw hides, skins not furskins, leather: $1.7 million (Reversing a -$685,000 deficit)
- Collector items, art, antiques: $1.7 million (Down by -66.9%)
- Headgear: $1.1 million (Down by -66%)
- Zinc: $775,000 (Up by 1335.2%)
- Nickel: $499,000 (Reversing a -$514,000 deficit)
- Musical instruments: $47,000 (Down by -33.8%)
Syria has positive net exports in the international trade of cotton. In turn, these cashflows indicate Syria’s strong competitive advantages under the related product category.
Products Causing Syria’s Worst Trade Deficits
Overall Syria incurred an estimated -US$5.6 billion trade deficit during 2025, expanding by 73.3% from -$3.2 billion in red ink one year earlier in 2024.

Syria has highly negative net exports and therefore deep international trade deficits under the product categories for vehicles and plastics. Those categories encompass automobiles as well as plastic materials and items made from plastics.
