The man, aged 36, was on board a flight to Sydney from Los Angeles on May 29, when he got up from his seat and moved to a different row, sitting next to a woman who he did not know.
He then allegedly touched a woman on the thigh and buttocks while she was trying to sleep.
When the airline crew were made aware of what happened, they moved the woman to a different section of the plane.
AFP officers intervened when the plane landed in Sydney.
They interviewed witnesses and the man before issuing the man with a court attendance notice for one count of indecent assault.
"No one on an aircraft should feel unsafe because of the behaviour of other travellers and if someone has committed an offence, the AFP will take action," AFP Detective Inspector Dom Stephenson said."
He will front the Downing Centre Local Court today.
