A man named Faheem, the brother-in-law of Dr Umar Un Nabi, the suicide bomber in the November 10 Delhi blast case, has been detained from an unknown location.
According to sources, Faheem was detained after he was found to have parked the red Ford EcoSport (DL 10 CK 0458) at Kandawali village in Faridabad.
He was accompanied by an unidentified woman when the car was parked. Officials said he has been taken into custody for questioning but has not been formally arrested at this point.
The red EcoSport was earlier seized by the Faridabad Police and is suspected to be linked to Dr Umar Un Nabi.
Before the car blast on Monday evening, Umar Nabi is believed to have stayed at a mosque on Asaf Ali Road near Ramlila Maidan. After leaving the mosque, he went to the Sunehri Masjid parking lot, where he parked another vehicle around 3.19 pm. Investigative agencies are examining Umar’s mobile phone and signal history.
The Delhi Police had earlier issued an alert for the red Ford EcoSport, registered in the name of Umar Un Nabi, and shared its details with the Uttar Pradesh and Haryana Police.
All police stations, posts, and border checkpoints in the national capital were instructed to look out for the vehicle, following findings that the suspects had another car in addition to the Hyundai i20 used in the blast.
Meanwhile, DNA samples of Dr Umar Nabi’s mother and brother were matched with the remains of the person driving the i20 car at the time of the explosion near the Red Fort.
The samples were collected and sent to the AIIMS forensic laboratory for analysis.
According to Delhi Police sources, Umar was seen with the Hyundai i20 on the Mumbai Expressway and the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway before heading towards Delhi. Investigative agencies are tracing the vehicle’s movement.
The NIA has constituted a dedicated investigation team to probe the Delhi car blast incident, which the Centre termed a “terrorist attack".
The team will operate under the supervision of senior officers, including those of the Superintendent of Police rank and above, to ensure a coordinated and detailed investigation.
The massive explosion near the Red Fort claimed the lives of 13 people and injured many others.
