Anime characters with beautiful details will keep you smiling all year long. 

One of the things we love about Studio Ghibli is how it likes to share its success by collaborating with local companies, bringing them to the plate so they can share the spotlight together. Noritake is one such company, drawing on its 120-plus years of history and expertise to produce ceramics for the studio, with the limited-edition “Yearly Plate” being an annual tradition that fans look forward to.

Though the design changes every year, My Neighbour Totoro is always the star, and for 2027 we have some familiar characters greeting us from amongst the floral forest setting.

Up top, we have the Catbus, beautifully rendered in watercolour and complete with mouse lights and a destination marker that reads “うち” (“home“). Look closely and you’ll spot Mei and Satsuki enjoying the ride from inside, and galloping up the rear is a surprise appearance by the Kittenbus, distinguished by its yet-to-grow teeth.

On the left is Totoro, perched on a camphor leaf and holding a beautiful evening primrose in his hand, with a smile to bring happiness to your days.

▼ On the right, you’ll find the blue Medium Totoro, carrying its iconic sack of acorns.

▼ And at the bottom sits the white Small Totoro, peering out from a log that reads “2027“.

Soot Sprites, butterflies and wildflowers like valerian, carnations, and bellflowers add countryside charm to the design on both the front and back of the plate.

▼ The plate comes with a wooden stand and is beautifully packaged in a special box, making it ideal for gift-giving.

With soft, delicate touches and meticulous attention to detail, this is a plate that will put a smile on your face all year long. It’ll also be highly sought after, because like last year’s offering, it’ll only be available while stocks last, and if the product sells out after pre-sales begin at 12:00 p.m. on 5 September, it won’t be provided for general sale.
