Diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict appear to be stalling. President Donald Trump says the US is not negotiating with Iran. Speaking at Joint Base Andrews, he was vague about potential further military action before the US midterm elections next month. Iran's senior negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has held talks with the Supreme Leader about the war with the US. That's according to state media. The two also discussed the economic sanctions imposed by Washington. Alexandru Hudisteanu, a military defence analyst specialising in maritime security, tells Al Jazeera the Strait of Hormuz is near “maximum level of danger” as US-Iran diplomacy stalls.
