Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, on Thursday, said that the State government decided to spend ₹400 crore for works necessary to avoid landslips caused by heavy rains in the Malnad and coastal regions.
The Minister spoke at a review meeting with officers in Chikkamagaluru. The government had taken the issue of landslips seriously. The locations vulnerable to landslips had been identified, and residents need to be rehabilitated. “The works to safeguard people in the vulnerable sites will be taken on priority. We have sought additional funds from the Centre for the works,” he said.
Later, speaking to presspersons, the Minister said that his department was committed to taking disciplinary action against officers responsible for illegal grants of land in Kadur and Mudigere taluks. “We will definitely take action against those officials involved in the illegal act. There is no question of backtracking on this issue. The inquiry is getting delayed as many officers are involved in these cases,” he said.
The Minister said that the officers, who were responsible for illegalities, would not be spared. “There are a few who made minor mistakes. I have instructed officers to drop such people from the case. However, those responsible for the illegalities will face the action. We will take the case to a logical end,” he stated.
Legislators and senior officers, including Rajender Kumar Kataria, Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department, were present at the meeting.
