It seems Spencer is no stranger to the agony of sunburn, as his wife has recounted a time in Africa where he ended up in hospital with swelling and dehydration

Spencer Matthews reportedly once had to spend the day in hospital with extreme sunburn after falling asleep on a sunbed. As Brits head out into the fourth heatwave to enjoy the sun, it's vital to remember to apply sun tan lotion to help protect themselves from sunburn and skin cancer.

Many of us are familiar with the agony of sunburn: sore, hot skin, peeling and, in some cases, even blisters. It seems Spencer is no stranger to it either, having ended up in hospital after a night on the lash.

Spencer's wife Vogue Williams recounted the tale on her podcast with her sister Abbie, after being prompted by the story of a man who went viral for his extreme sunburn. Vogue explained that Spencer's own ordeal took place in Africa.

She said: "That happened to Spen before. He was in Africa and he went on the p**s

"And he got home at like six in the morning and fell asleep on a sunbed and woke up at two or three and he woke up and he'd sat in the sun from 6am when the sun was rising till like two or three in the afternoon.

"And he said his whole body was so swollen and his face was really swollen. And he was so dehydrated. He had to go to hospital. He was in hospital for a full day."

It comes after Vogue was spotted on holiday in Spain with Spencer, with whom she shares three kids, sporting her baby bump. Snapped in a yellow bikini, she was seen enjoying a day at the beach with the family.

Spencer was sighted with abs on display, donning green and brown shorts. Known for his role in Made in Chelsea, Spencer previously spoke about how he and Vogue "struggled" after a major upheaval.

Once a heavy drinker, he transformed his lifestyle and completed a series of endurance feats, such as 30 marathons in 30 days in the desert. Another venture was his alcohol-free spirits and canned cocktails brand CleanCo, but it seems the business caused some issues.

He told the Untapped podcast: "That is something my wife and I have struggled with in the past.

"When I started Clean Co, I was just like a dog with a bone. I slept sporadically, I was pacing around the kitchen at four in the morning chatting to Australian investors. I just had no chill, no off switch, was for all intents and purposes thinking I was Bill Gates, I was just in it.

"I couldn't have been more dialled into it, some relationships, some friendships certainly, suffered to the point of extinction. There's just no time for it.

"It's nothing personal. Time that I would have spent in the time with my pals replaced with Zooms and project building calls with your team. I'm just more excited by that and this stage of my life."
