South Africa completed a clean sweep of their ODI series against Namibia with a commanding performance in the third and final match. Namibia were bowled out for 156 in 36.2 overs, with South Africa’s bowlers producing a disciplined effort after the hosts elected to bat first.

The standout performer with the ball was South Africa captain Bjorn Fortuin, who delivered his best performance of the match and played a major role in putting Namibia under sustained pressure. The left-arm spinner finished with four wickets for 33 runs from 10 overs, maintaining an excellent economy rate of 3.30.

Bjorn Fortuin leads South Africa’s bowling attack

Fortuin was at the heart of Namibia’s collapse, accounting for four important wickets. He dismissed Louren Steenkamp for 23, before removing captain Gerhard Erasmus for three and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton for four. He later returned to dismiss Waldo Smith for two, completing an impressive four-wicket haul.

His spell was particularly effective because he consistently kept Namibia’s batters under control. Across his 10 overs, Fortuin conceded only 33 runs and claimed four wickets, giving South Africa a major advantage during the middle overs.

South Africa’s other bowlers also contributed to the dominant display. Kwena Maphaka picked up two wickets, while Nqabayomzi Peter also finished with two wickets. Corbin Bosch claimed one wicket, with Nqobani Mokoena going wicketless from his five overs.

Namibia batters struggle despite getting promising starts

Namibia’s innings never gained enough momentum despite useful contributions from Alexander Volschenk and Zane Green.

Volschenk top-scored with 31 runs, while wicketkeeper Green contributed 33. Steenkamp made 23, and Max Heingo remained unbeaten on 20 at the end of the innings. However, the lack of substantial partnerships meant Namibia could not build a competitive total.

Namibia’s innings also featured a significant number of extras, with 20 extras added to the total, including 13 wides, four byes and three leg-byes.

The wickets began falling regularly after Michael van Lingen was dismissed for just two. Namibia subsequently lost Jan Frylinck, Steenkamp and Volschenk in quick succession, leaving the innings in trouble. The hosts then slipped further as Erasmus and Loftie-Eaton departed before the total could reach three figures.

South Africa register a series sweep

Chasing the paltry target, South Africa reached the finish line in just 21.3 overs. Jordan Hermann led the way with an impressive 77 off 59 balls, although he was the only South African batter to be dismissed.

His opening partner Connor Esterhuizen provided excellent support and remained unbeaten on 68, ensuring there was little pressure on the Proteas during the chase. Dewald Brevis then finished the contest in style, smashing Max Heingo for a six to seal the victory and complete the series whitewash.
