The blast in the Prenestino neighbourhood was heard across the Italian capital just after 8 am. "I heard an explosion; it sounded like a bomb inside the house. It was really bad, and the building seemed to shake," said resident Nicolas Galain. Rome's Mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, stated that firefighters and police officers were responding to an earlier incident involving a truck that had struck a gas pipeline, causing a leak. An investigation into the blast is ongoing.
