A lesser-known mobile network is rivalling major brands like Sky and giffgaff with its £5 phone plan. The deal comes from Spusu, a firm which started life in Austria before expanding to Italy and Switzerland.

It came to the UK in 2023, offering a range of SIM-only plans that can be used both here and in the EU. Spusu’s slogan is ‘simple. fair. for you,’ and in keeping with this, there are only three plans up for grabs, starting at £4.90 per month for its 5GB SIM.

The brand is also running a special deal offering its 50GB SIM for £11.90, but this is set to expire on October 16. There’s no long-term commitment necessary with spusu, as each deal comes on a flexible 30-day rolling plan.

This is the case for each spusu SIM-only, which renews automatically at the end of each month until cancelled. As well as unlimited minutes and texts to use in the UK, spusu’s plans also include allowances for use when in the EU, with customers able to switch their plan should they need to increase their data or reduce costs.

Here’s the latest spusu SIM-only deals:

  • Spusu 5 – 5GB, unlimited minutes and texts, £4.90.
  • Spusu 30 – 30GB, unlimited minutes and texts, £9.90.
  • Spusu 50 – 50GB, unlimited minutes and texts, £11.90.

Spusu's SIM-only plans start at £4.90 per month with no long-term commitment. Plus, they come with data, minutes and texts to use both in the UK and EU.

All three plans also come with extra perks such as free EU roaming and international calls to the EU, with eSIMs, 5G, WiFi Calling, and VoLTE included at no extra cost. However, some smartphones are not compatible with spusu services such as WiFi Calling and VoLTE, so customers should check the website before signing up.

The brand also ensures switching is kept simple by allowing new members to keep their phone number and cancel the old plan. Spusu promises reliable coverage powered by EE and without any speed caps or restrictions, but customers are advised to use its coverage checker before making a commitment.

Spusu’s plans rival major brands like Sky, where the 60GB SIM-only has been reduced from £22 to £14 in an introductory offer that saves £96. However, customers must commit to a 12-month contract to take advantage of this deal.

Elsewhere, giffgaff recently began offering its unlimited everything SIM-only for £15. Usually priced at £25, this deal saves £180 over the life of the 18-month term. But spusu has won over consumers, racking up hundreds of positive reviews on Trustpilot.

One five-star review says: “The switch was smooth, and keeping my old number happened on schedule a few days after purchase. Friendly customer service. The phone and data connection seem excellent. 10 out of 10.”

Another said: “The whole experience from the quick setup with eSim, the comprehensive app and the full benefits of EE’s network at a fraction of the price, has been superb. Having a compatible phone is essential, and Spusu’s website clearly states which ones are. Best of all is their customer service, quick to reply, UK-based and extremely helpful.”

This reviewer noted a slight niggle with their spusu plan, saying: “Moved from Three and spusu have been quick, helpful, transparent and changing with PAC was easy. My only gripe is that they don’t yet seem to offer a carry forward of unused data.” This glowing review says: “The customer service is second to none."
