The car was first spotted speeding by a patrol car near Church Street in Whittlesea about 1am today.

After losing sight of the car, police AirWing located the SUV about 20 minutes later, where it was allegedly speeding near Plenty Road in South Morang.

Stop sticks were successfully deployed on Bellevue Boulevard.

Police AirWing continued trailing the Haval, which allegedly continued speeding through Epping before it crashed.

Police were not pursuing the Haval before it crashed.

The occupants include three 17-year-old boys from the Whittlesea area, two 16-year-old boys from the Hume area and a 19-year-old Seymour woman.

They are all under police guard in hospital.

Both the on-ramp and the inbound exit of the Hume Highway at O'Herns Road remain closed as of 12pm.

O'Herns Road is also closed between Gateway Boulevard and the freeway.

Motorists have been warned of delays of more than 45 minutes.

Investigations remain ongoing.
