The Haryana Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged suicide of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar Lathar and the arrest of Head Constable Sushil Kumar, the gunman of the late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.
The SIT, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Dalip Singh, will comprise Inspector Surender Kumar, a sub-inspector, and an assistant sub-inspector. It will investigate First Information Report (FIR) No. 319, registered at Urban Estate police station in Rohtak on October 6 against Sushil following a complaint by a liquor businessman, as well as FIR No. 305 registered at Sadar police station on October 15 in connection with ASI Sandeep’s alleged suicide.
ASI Sandeep, who was with the Rohtak police’s cyber cell, was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head at his maternal uncle’s farm in a village in Rohtak on October 14. His death added a new twist to the alleged suicide of Y Puran Kumar. In his “final note”, ASI Sandeep held IGP Puran Kumar, his wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, and two others responsible for his death.
Though the police are yet to make the FIR public, a copy of it was shown to the family members, after which the post-mortem was conducted and the last rites were performed.
ASI Sandeep was part of the police team that caught Sushil from around the Ambala area earlier this month. Sandeep was also questioned by the Chandigarh Police SIT that is currently investigating Y Puran Kumar’s alleged suicide.
