The BJP on Monday (June 23, 2025) said that Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s opinion piece published in The Hindu had “exposed” the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
Mr. Tharoor, in his article in The Hindu published on Monday (June 23, 2025), had written that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “energy, dynamism and willingness to engage” was a “prime asset for India on the global stage” and deserved greater backing. The remarks have come a time when the Congress has consistently been attacking the BJP-led Centre over its foreign policy. The article has also illuminated a different path that Mr. Tharoor has been treading from his party, the Congress, on certain issues and the differences therein.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Office, through its official handle on X, also shared Dr. Tharoor’s opinion piece in The Hindu.

Reacting to Mr. Tharoor’s comments, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari took potshots at the Congress. In a post on X, he said, “Shashi Tharoor admits that PM Modi’s dynamism and global outreach are a strategic advantage for India. Shashi Tharoor exposes Rahul Gandhi.”
In his article, Mr. Tharoor had said the diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor was a moment of national resolve and effective communication.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s energy, dynamism and willingness to engage remains a prime asset for India on the global stage but deserves greater backing. The diplomatic outreach following ‘Operation Sindoor’ was a moment of national resolve and effective communication. It affirmed that India, when united, can project its voice with clarity and conviction on international platforms,” he wrote.
Part of outreach
Mr. Tharoor was one of seven leaders from across political parties who led multi-party delegations to different world capitals to convey India’s stand following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent military operation. Mr. Tharoor’s delegation visited the U.S. and four other countries.
Speaking in Thiruvananthapuram last week, Mr. Tharoor said he has differences of opinion with some in the party leadership, but refused to speak about those in light of the Nilambur Assembly bypoll. The veteran leader said the Congress, its values and its workers are very dear to him.
