Brokerages on MGL
Nomura on MGL
Buy, TP Rs 1430
1Q adjusted EBITDA of Rs 3.4bn, up 32% q-q, & ahead estimates by 40%
Beat can be largely attributed to higher-than-expected net realization of INR54.7/scm (+12% q-q, 8% ahead of est.), which more than offset the increased gas costs at Rs 39.9/scm, up 13% qq Believe that MGL achieved higher realisation from industrial/commercial customers during 1Q because of propane unavailability.
Other operating expenses decreased by 7% q-q as 4Q typically represents a seasonal high for these costs (1% below estimate).
Total sales volume of 4.8mmscmd was in line with est, and up 7% y-y
CITI on MGL
Buy, TP Rs 1400
Stronger-than-expected 1Q, with EBITDA of Rs3.4bn (+32% qoq, -32% yoy), 25% ahead of est., driven primarily by margins coming in meaningfully ahead of expectations (Rs7.9/scm) and volumes too delivering a modest beat (+7% yoy).
While gas costs surged qoq, ahead of expectations, MGL managed to offset impact through price hikes across segments, leading to sequentially higher margins.
Volumes, too, were ahead of expectations, led by strong CNG volume growth (+10% yoy), more than offsetting the impact of subdued industrial volumes due to gov’t-imposed gas allocation curbs
Net income stood at Rs1.9bn (+47% qoq, -39% yoy), 34% above estimate, with 1Q EPS of Rs20/sh.
MGL’s performance amid supply challenges on account of the West Asia conflict is impressive.
Recent gov’t initiatives and improved pricing power reinforce the CGD sector’s long-term growth prospects, supporting constructive view
MS on MGL
OW, TP Rs 1421
MGL’s core PAT of Rs1.9bn beat expectations via strong volume growth, CNG retail price hikes, and US gas sourcing exposure.
CNG gas volumes grew 10% YoY (vs. industry at 9% May QTD), offsetting lower industrial volumes (as mandated by government in 1QF27).
Unit margin was Rs7.9/scm, driven by lower Henry Hub prices and Rs5/kg CNG hike.
Alternative fuels (petrol and diesel) had a price hike of Rs7.5/litre last quarter.
OMCs’ underrecoveries should keep prices up for longer, benefiting CNG
