Amid protests against the Election Commission of India (ECI) over alleged discrepancies in the SIR process, at the direction of ECI, the State Election Commission (SEC) in Maharashtra has set-up a special voter registration camps in colleges/universities, saying “no eligible elector will be left out of the electoral roll”.

The Voter Registration Officers have set up the camps for disposal of notices / claims and objections and enrolment of all eligible electors .

“To facilitate large-scale registration of young voters, special voter registration camps are being organised in all colleges and universities across Maharashtra from October 5 to 9,” said Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in a statement issued late on Tuesday night.

According to SEC, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been present at these camps to assist students in filling applications and to clarify their queries regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

SEC has also ordered house-to-house verification and registration of voters not included in the draft roll. The BLOs have been visiting households to identify such voters and, upon verification of eligibility, are collecting Form 6 from them.

“For citizens who are not at home during these visits, special voter registration camps will be organised at all polling stations on October 10 and 11,” said SEC official, adding that the voters who have changed their usual place of residence and whose names have been included in the list of absent or migrated persons during BLO home visits can also apply for registration.

The list of such voters is available on the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer.

During the claims and objections period, i.e., up to October 12, applications may be submitted in person to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), BLOs, or at designated polling stations.
