Globally exported sawn wood from all countries totaled US$38.8 billion in 2025.

Overall, the value of sawn wood exports fell by an average -31.1% increase for all exporting nations since 2021 when sawn wood shipments were valued at $56.3 billion.

From 2024 to 2025, the value of sawn wood shipped worldwide rose by 2.9% starting from $37.7 billion.

The 5 biggest exporters of sawn wood are Canada, Sweden, Russia, Germany and Finland. By value, those 5 major suppliers shipped approaching than half (48.5%) of sawn wood exports during 2025.

Among continents, European countries sold the greatest dollar value worth of exported sawn wood during 2025 with shipments amounting to $23.2 billion or nearly three-fifths (59.8%) of the global total. In second place were exporters based in North America at 22.1% while another 7% of worldwide sawn wood shipments originated from suppliers in Asia.

Smaller percentages came from providers in Latin America (5.7%) excluding Mexico but including Caribbean nations, trailed by Africa (3.3%), then Oceania (2.1%) led by New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Australia.

For research purposes, the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix for sawn wood is 4407.

  2. Sweden: $4.4 billion (11.4%)

  5. Finland: $2.6 billion (6.6%)
  6. United States: $2.5 billion (6.5%)
  7. Austria: $2.1 billion (5.4%)
  8. Thailand: $1.2 billion (3.1%)
  9. Latvia: $955.2 million (2.5%)
  10. Brazil: $801.2 million (2.1%)
  11. Chile: $749.2 million (1.9%)
  12. New Zealand: $670.3 million (1.7%)
  13. Belgium: $616.7 million (1.6%)
  14. Croatia: $559 million (1.4%)
  15. France: $556.2 million (1.4%)

By value, the listed 15 countries shipped more than three-quarters (76.3%) of globally exported sawn wood in 2025.

Among the top exporters, the fastest-growing sawn wood exporters from 2024 to 2025 were: Finland (up 25.8%), Austria (up 25.2%), Belgium (up 19.2%) and Sweden (up 15.2%).

Those countries that posted year-over-year declines in their exported sawn wood sales were: Russia (down -20.4%), Canada (down -8.9%), Thailand (down -8.9%), Chile (down -7%) and the United States of America (down -6.6%).

Focusing on the 100 top exporters of sawn wood, the strongest increases were generated by Myanmar (up 442.9% from 2024), Egypt (up 435.2%), Vietnam (up 245.3%), Central African Republic (up 236.8%) then Papua New Guinea (up 133%).

Sawn-wood exports leader Canada generated the highest surplus in the international trade of sawn wood, albeit it shrank compared to 2024. Nevertheless, this positive cashflow confirms Canada’s strong competitive advantage for this specific product category.

Countries Causing Worst Deficits Trading Sawn Wood

The following countries posted the highest negative net exports for sawn wood during 2025. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports. Mainland China and the United States of America incurred the highest deficits in the international trade of sawn wood. In turn, these negative cashflows highlight both players’ comparative competitive disadvantages for this specific product category but also signals opportunities for sawn wood-supplying countries that help satisfy the powerful demand from the American economy.
