Stakeholders and employee collectives of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, have flagged pending financial dues and delays in welfare settlements, despite the enterprise posting a turnover of ₹36,363 crore in the last two years.

Citing the plant’s internal savings, employee groups appealed to the Prime Minister’s Office on X on Wednesday (August 5, 2026).

@PMOIndia
Despite generating ₹36,363 cr, saving ₹55 cr/month on wages, maintaining ₹900+ cr emergency funds and still holding ₹195 cr cash, why the following remain pending: Working employees salary, Full settlement of VRS-2 & -3 beneficiaries, Family Pension/Widow Pension pic.twitter.com/jVEHp3gNW5

In a representation shared on social media, employee and retired employees’ forums, led by collectives such as VizagSteelFamily, questioned why financial commitments remained pending despite healthy operational cash flows. The collective said the plant saves about ₹55 crore a month on wage-related expenditure, maintains an emergency reserve fund of over ₹900 crore, and holds a liquid cash balance of ₹195 crore.

Despite these reserves, several employee welfare categories have faced long delays. The representation says the salaries of regular working employees, full and final settlements for beneficiaries under the VRS-2 and VRS-3 schemes, and family and widow pensions remain unresolved.

With generating ₹36,363 Cr saving ₹55 Cr/month in wages, maintaining ₹900+Cr emergency funds and holding ₹195 crore cash, why to withhold Salaries, Full VRS-2 & VRS-3 payments, Family/Widow pensions, PLI dues for 10 years? @RINL_VSP.

Employee associations said that given the plant’s operational capacity and reserve balances, there was no technical or financial justification for deferring these disbursements. Retired personnel and the dependents of dead employees have joined the demand, asking the Centre to direct the management to clear all pending settlements without further delay.
