Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who faces multiple rape charges, on Friday (March 6, 2026) sought additional time to submit his response to a petition filed by the special investigation team (SIT) seeking cancellation of his bail in one of the cases.
The plea, which alleges violation of bail conditions, will next be considered by the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on March 10. This is the second time that the legislator has requested more time to submit his reply to the petition filed by the investigation team.
The plea followed a complaint from the survivor involved in the second sexual assault case against the legislator. The survivor approached the investigation team claiming that Mr. Mamkootathil attempted to influence her despite being out on bail.
According to the complaint, the MLA allegedly tried to contact her over the phone in an attempt to influence her. The WhatsApp call was purportedly made a day after the survivor recorded her confidential statement before the court.
The investigation team subsequently approached the court, contended that such actions amounted to a violation of the bail conditions and sought cancellation of his bail.
