Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Regional Passport Office in Chennai will operate its Mobile Passport Seva Van in Krishnagiri district for three days. The initiative is aimed at improving access to passport facilities for people in remote and underserved areas. The mobile unit will provide 30 appointments per day, which can be booked online through the official Passport Seva website.
This service will run alongside the 40 daily appointments already handled by the Krishnagiri post office.
The Mobile Passport Seva Van was launched in Chennai by the Chief Passport Officer, Ministry of External Affairs, and is part of a broader plan to ensure last-mile delivery of government services.
The Chennai passport office has also led digital upgrades in the system. Earlier this year, it became the first in South India to issue e-passports. These contain a chip with the holder’s personal and biometric information, offering greater security and helping reduce the chances of forgery.
More than 1.2 lakh e-passports have already been issued by the Chennai office, which handles about 2,500 applications every day.
Plans are also underway to expand the office’s reach, with a new Passport Seva Kendra set to open in Perambur, North Chennai. The Ministry of External Affairs has also announced its goal to set up at least one passport office in every parliamentary constituency.
The mobile van initiative highlights the government’s focus on making essential services more accessible to people in rural and semi-urban regions.
