The Lok Sabha passed the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, on Friday (July 31, 2026) amid huge uproar in the Lower House. Citing it as “unfortunate”, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised the Opposition for not participating in the discussion. He urged Opposition members to take part in the debate instead of disrupting the proceedings. The House was adjourned for the day amid continued sloganeering in the House.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha witnessed repeated disruptions. Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan pulled up TMC leader Derek O’Brien for disrupting proceedings and rejected a Rule 267 notice moved by Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused the Opposition of obstructing the functioning of the House. With the protests continuing, the proceedings were cut short, and the House was adjourned till August 03, 2026, to reconvene at 11 a.m.

Earlier, the Parliament passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, after the Rajya Sabha too cleared it on Thursday (July 30, 2026). The Lok Sabha had passed the Bill on Wednesday (July 29, 2026). Opposition members belonging to the INDIA bloc walked out of the House before the reply by Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh to the seven-hour debate. The DMK did not walk out, but moved amendments against the Bill, which were defeated.
