After more than four decades of obsession with all things waterproof, ORTLIEB knows a thing or two about keeping your precious cargo dry. The German company needs little introduction, and the hard-wearing quality of their watertight bags has been proven on countless adventures worldwide. They have long perfected the art of in-house manufacturing—everything from welding to closures to hardware, and even the machines—but with the introduction of TIDURA, they now control the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, including the material itself.

Developed and manufactured on the ORTLIEB campus in Heilsbronn, Germany, which Josh and I visited several years back, TIDURA is a proprietary material made from a TPU-coated woven fabric that’s engineered to ideally suit the company’s welding processes, closure systems, and quality standards. It is rated to an incredibly high 100,000 mm water column and available in two variants. TIDURA Strong offers maximum abrasion and tear resistance with a 2,400 N tensile strength, and TIDURA Core balances protection and everyday usability with 1,500 N tensile strength. Both variants come backed by ORTLIEB’s five-year guarantee and have a minimum of 10 years of spare parts availability.

Today’s launch of the new material includes the BACK-ROLLER 20L Zip-Pocket rear pannier, VELOCITY 23L backpack, and DUFFLE Zip (40L and 60L) in TIDURA Strong, all in Lavender and Black. The all-new DAYPACK 23L urban backpack is also available in TIDURA Core in Black and Dark Sand.
