A police officer was killed, while another was injured, after they were ambushed while returning home from duty in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday afternoon.
The two officers, attached to the Madeira Detective Unit in Mthatha, were attacked in New Brighton and Ngangelizwe.
“The male officer died at the scene. The female officer is in critical condition in the hospital,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana.
She added that the names of the officers would be released once their next of kin had been notified.
The police are still combing the crime scene for clues.
