The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has again summoned Meta India’s Managing Director and Head of Meta India for a hearing on Wednesday in connection with allegations involving child sexual exploitative and abuse material (CSEAM), even as the Commission’s follow-up has prompted Meta to say it will report child sexual abuse cases to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
The NCPCR has also summoned a Vice President of Capgemini on Wednesday in connection with alleged child abuse at a day-care centre operated by the company in Bengaluru. The hearing is scheduled for 4 pm, when the Commission will examine the matter and determine culpability.
NCPCR inquiry into Meta
The Commission had issued a notice to Meta Platforms Inc. on July 3 after taking suo motu cognisance of a BBC Eye media report alleging advertisements related to CSEAM. Meta submitted its response a week later, following which the NCPCR decided to institute a formal inquiry to establish the facts.
Following the NCPCR’s persistent follow-up, Meta has told the Commission that it will also report cases of child sexual abuse to the I4C, marking a revision in its reporting policy in India.
Meta executives appeared before Commission
The NCPCR had last summoned Meta India’s Managing Director and Head of Meta India on September 9 as part of the inquiry. Meta executives appeared before the Commission then.
