A high-security breach occurred in Jammu on Wednesday evening as a firing incident was reported near Royal Park in the Greater Kailash area. The incident took place during a wedding function attended by National Conference (NC) President and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, along with Jammu & Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary.
The Incident and Injuries
The firing reportedly occurred as both VVIPs were in the process of leaving the private ceremony. Both Farooq Abdullah and Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary escaped without injuries.

Initial reports from the scene suggest a moment of chaos as the shots rang out, leading to an immediate response from the security details of the two leaders.
Accused Overpowered and Detained
The suspected shooter has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal. In a swift intervention, security personnel on duty at the venue managed to overpower the individual before he could cause further harm. Jamwal was taken into custody on the spot and has been shifted to a nearby police station for intensive questioning.
Senior police officials, including top brass from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, have rushed to the Royal Park area to oversee the preliminary investigation.
According to sources, the attacker has told the police he wanted to kill Farooq Abdullah for the last 20 years. He was invited to the wedding of his cousin’s son, where he opened fire.
Forensic teams have been called in to examine the site, and the weapon used in the incident has been seized.
Police Statement
The police said in a statement, “An attempt was made on the life of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, former CM/President of J&K National Conference when he was attending a marriage ceremony at Royal Park Greater Kailash, Jammu. The security deployed with the protectee immediately swung into action and thwarted the attempt and took the accused in custody, who was later identified as Kamal Singh S/o Ajit Singh R/o Purani Mandi, Jammu. The pistol used in the crime has also been recovered from the possession of the accused. Cognizance has been taken and further investigations going on."
Current Status
The area has been cordoned off, and a heavy police presence remains deployed around Greater Kailash. A formal statement from the police or the administration regarding the nature of the attack is expected late tonight as the interrogation of the accused progresses.
