Natural farming can make agriculture both profitable and sustainable, and the TDP-led NDA government is promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices across the State, said Minister for BC, EWS Welfare, Handlooms and Textiles S. Savitha.

The Minister was speaking at a workshop on Natural Farming for Economically Weaker Sections organised by the EWS Welfare Department in Vijayawada on Saturday (March 7). Farmers from across the State participated in the workshop and interacted with experts on various aspects of natural farming.

Ms. Savitha said that while implementing welfare schemes for EWS communities, the government was also encouraging initiatives that promote self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. She observed that the rising cost of fertilisers and pesticides was placing an increasing burden on farmers, and that by reducing dependence on chemicals and utilising natural resources, agriculture could be made more profitable.

Natural farming products also command higher prices and enjoy strong market demand, she added.

Earlier, the Minister inspected stalls displaying vegetables, pulses and other agricultural produce grown using organic fertilisers. She interacted with farmers, enquired about the organic inputs used in cultivation and appreciated them for adopting natural farming practices.

Special Chief Secretary, EWS Welfare, K. Sunitha, said the department was taking several initiatives to empower EWS communities through sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Among those present were Arya Vysya Corporation Chairman Doondi Rakesh, Kamma Corporation Chairman Nadendla Brahmam Chowdary, Brahmin Corporation Chairman Bucchi Ram Prasad, Managing Director of Arya Vysya and Kshatriya Corporations M. Maheshwar Reddy, and representatives of Rythu Sadhikara Samstha.
