The children's father Alfil Bash previously spoke of his devastation at the loss of his children, saying he "could not get his head around what had happened".

Avon and Somerset Police said Ali was detained under the Mental Health Act after being assessed by medical experts at the scene after the children's bodies were discovered.

She was later discharged from Southmead Hospital after being treated for her injuries, and is now living in a secure psychiatric hospital.

The force referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior contact with the family, but the watchdog said no investigation was required.

After the children's deaths, the community held vigils in their memory.

Sian Randall, headteacher at Sea Mills Primary School, where the two eldest children were pupils, said there were "no words that display the depth of sorrow".

"Fares was a ray of sunshine, with a mischievous smile and ray of spirit that touched everyone he encountered. He was always there to help the staff," he said.

"Joury was a beacon of pure joy, her smile would light up a whole room.

"Mohammed's brother and sister clearly doted on him, Fares would tell warm stories about him.

"We will miss them dearly, they were integral to us. Their absence will always be felt," she added.
